Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty / Septoplasty)

Nose surgery is sought for a variety of reasons. Some people simply don't care for the noses they were born with; some don't like the way aging has changed their nose. Many people have undergone skin cancer removal, had previous nose surgery or suffered traumatic accidents that require reconstruction. Still others have persistent breathing or snoring problems that require internal nose surgery (septoplasty / turbinoplasty). Whatever the case may be, nose surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures for both men and women today.

Cosmetic nose reshaping surgery addresses shape, width, length and/or overall size of the nose. Considerations like the shape of your face and genetic facial features, your height, gender and ethnicity play significant roles in planning your nose surgery. Our state-of-the-art imaging computer and before and after photographs are excellent visual aids that help you and Dr. Schmid more easily understand one another.

Since the nose is a defining characteristic of the face, slight changes can greatly alter the appearance. Nose surgery is an intricate surgery of millimeters that requires utmost care, expertise and artistry in creating facial harmony and a natural looking result. Through communication, thoughtful surgical planning, refined technique and artistic talent, Dr. Schmid has helped thousands of men and women achieve their cosmetic goals.

Approximate recovery time for nose surgery is 10 days to two weeks. As with any cosmetic procedure, recovery times vary with the extent of surgery, the attention the patient pays to postoperative care and follow-up, and patient's genetic healing abilities.

Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)

Unfortunately, many people with protruding ears bear a lifetime of self-consciousness and insecurity. Protruding ears can cause children to bear the burden of cruel teasing, while teenagers and adults feel they must cover protruding ears with longer hair styles.

Otoplasty, or surgery to 'pin back' the ears, is a safe surgical procedure performed under local sedation that may help children and adults restore self-esteem. It can be performed after the age of 5, once the ears are fully developed, and the patient and/or guardian are able to decide the degree of correction they would like. Under normal circumstances, the procedure takes about two hours and results are immediate.

Suffering from a traumatic accident resulting in partial loss of the ear, an ear lobe tear, or dissatisfaction with the lengthening of the ear lobe caused from aging may be addressed with reconstructive surgery. While ear lobe repair and shortening of the earlobe (lobularplasty) are relatively simple in-office procedures, reconstructing the ear can be a complex procedure staged over time. Ear reconstruction is often covered by insurance.

Approximate recovery time is one week. As with any cosmetic procedure, recovery times vary with the extent of surgery, the attention the patient pays to postoperative care and follow-up, and patient's genetic healing abilities.
